Summer Solstice Update

How’s everyone doing? It’s summer now! In fact, I’m writing this the week of the summer solstice, which means summer is here. As I promised in my last post, I wanted to keep posting a blog every week or so.  I figured the start of summer was the perfect time for one!

I’ve been feeling a pull to finish the second book in the Crescent trilogy, so I’m working on that. I’ve missed those characters and that world, and I’ve talked about finishing it for so long that I figured it was about time. What’s been so fascinating about writing in this world again is that it is a lot harder than I remember. I think the primary reason is that when I began working on Kelcius, I was finally writing in 3rd person, and I think now I FINALLY realize just how liberating it is to write that way. It’s not as confined, and I have found that I can be far more creative with my writing style when I’m jumping between POV's and 3rd person. With Astrid and Sage, we are stuck with only their thoughts and their minds and we can only ever see the story through their eyes. It’s a lot harder to be descriptive and write more things besides dialogue. Sometimes I feel like Speck of Sage is like a movie script because it has so many damn lines of dialogue. The contrast between the two is stark. Believe it or not I find myself flip flopping day by day which story I’d rather work on. Am I crazy? Probably. But then again, isn’t that required for this line of work? 

I was down the shore this past weekend, so I’m a little out of it creatively, but I’m getting back into it this week and I am just happy that I have found  joy in writing again, no matter what story I choose to work on. I might start dabbling into some more poetry again too. I had written so much because of college classes, but I have not once tried to write any more since I graduated. I think it’s time to change that. 

Well, that’s all for now! Now that it’s summer time, I’d love to know what you guys are reading! I’m thinking about picking out a new book to read myself and I’d love some recommendations!!
